DRIP BOX (2)

Drip box cover and nettle with other plants and mosses on a narrow stone path

Adjusted to make it look as if the day and the place were clearer and brighter than they really were.

Putting more than one version of the drip box photograph on the blog may be a mistake but it's a record of the way I am currently struggling with light around my new home. In making this picture crisper in detail than when it first came out of the camera I have sadly made it flat and dull.

Hopefully the time will come when I laugh at myself and find it easy.

On the other hand, trying to take photographs of interesting things in dark corners between high walls on damp days may be the real issue!

What's a 'drip box'? (This isn't a quiz. I don't know what a drip box is or what it's for.)

THE DAY THE SUN TURNED RED - 4 - THE SUN

The sun on 16th October 2017, with clouds of Saharan and Iberian dust and telephone wire.

On 16th October 2017, dust from the Sahara, Portugal and Spain obscured the sun enough that we could look straight at it with our naked eyes. (No filter.)

THE DAY THE SUN TURNED RED - 3 - LEAVES

Fallen autumn leaves given extra gold on the day the sun turned red.

On October 16th 2017 dust from the Sahara and debris from wild fires in Portugal and Spain were brought in on the skirts of hurricane / storm Ophelia. The sun turned red and leaves - which were already golden - were given an extra glow in the uncanny light.

THE DAY THE SUN TURNED RED 2 - STREET LIGHT

Street light turns on in gloom of orange sky when the sun was red.

This street light turned itself on when clouds of dust from the Sahara combined with debris from wild fires in Portugal and Spain to alter the light and everything seemed orange.

WHEN THE SUN WENT RED - PORTRAIT

Woman in Halifax when Sahara dust and Storm Ophelia made the sun turn red and the light orange.

On 16th October 2017 wild fires in Spain and Portugal sent dust into the air. It floated across the UK. Storm Ophelia brought high winds and red dust from the Sahara. The light turned gold and the sun went red. We could look straight at it. The atmosphere was a bit like the tension before an eclipse - only a different colour.
